Google Reader API to be released in a month

Google Reader API to be released
Google Reader API to be released

I am an avid user of Google Reader since I discovered it several months ago, and I left my Netvibes RSS aggregator since. I'll go into the reasons shortly. As a blogger I needed to read a lot of blogs in a minimum time, If I go to the websites to read, the downloading time will waste mine. So RSS feed is the best solution to be effective in reading lots of blogs.

Google Reader is Powerful, this is why

  • It is backed by Google technology, so you can expect it to be robust (although it crashes sometime)
  • You can navigate back in time to read the post that were published before you subscribed to to feed
  • The title display or snippet display of each post will save you time, because you can scan rapidly and read only what interest you
  • The only weakness so far is its search function which is very limited, knowing how powerful a search engine Google is.

Although Netvibes's RSS aggregator interface is very handy, it allows you to take advantage of the screen by placing RSS feed into small boxes, so as you can scan very efficiently (maybe better than Google Reader, it does not allow you to go back in time, and it slower, much slower than Google Reader especially its preview feature, that's the reason why I switched to Google Reader.

Google Reader is powerful, but I wanted more

When it comes to scan multiple RSS feeds, it is where Google Reader does not perform well, you can browse only one feed at a time. How I wish I could combine the speed of Google Reader with the bird's eye view of Netvibes to increase my reading speed. I also wanted a better way to organize and filter articles that interested me (with tags for example). On its blog, Niall Kennedy said that Google would in the beginning of 2009 officially release their Reader API. That's great news to me, I'd be excited to play with the API and try to have the perfect RSS Reader that I could not find even by 2009 !
